Our Story

Grandpa had been a carpenter all his life, his hands more familiar with wood than with almost anything else. So for his eightieth birthday, the family commissioned something only he would truly understand: a small wooden statue, carved in his likeness, down to the lines around his eyes.

He held it for a long time without speaking, turning it over the way he’d once turned over blocks of cedar, checking the grain.

“Good hands,” he finally said, nodding. “Whoever made this has good hands.”

Coming from him, there was no higher praise.
